With the launch of Blackberry’s latest offering the Z10 which is currently the only device running the new BB10 OS things are getting quite excited for Blackberry. Pushed to almost the brink of extinction, it was a make or break attempt for Blackberry to prove itself with its new BB10 OS. As a competition to the current trend of touch screen devices Blackberry launched their all touch screen device the Z10 instead of their typical QWERTY offering with BB10 OS, the Q10. FierceWireless had a chance to interview Blackberry’s executive vice president, Rick Costanzo, to find out more about how well the Z10 was doing and the results were surprisingly positive for blackberry.
Rick Costanzo has confirmed that the Z10 has sold more than their initial expectations and as far as the figures go till now more than a third of the buyers are converts from iOS or Android platforms prior to the Z10. In countries like Canada, Blackberry’s home land, the converts are accounting to almost 50% which is outstanding if it continues to do so.
The exact sales figures cannot be given out yet and we have to wait out till the next quarterly earnings call is made by Blackberry. We have to see how well Blackberry will make use of this momentum, with the Q10 also on the cards things seems to be shiny ahead for Blackberry.
The only thing we are skeptical about is that prior to the Z10 almost 9 in 10 smartphone buyers are buying iOS and Android devices and any smartphone buyer who would like to try the Z10 is considered to be a convert from iOS or Android platforms which might not give an exact impart factor for us. The next few months is still quite critical for Blackberry!
